The Deuce Weekly, 9/4 - 9/10

Vol III, Iss I
9/4-9/10

The Fall Preview Issue

Here's a rundown of whas-appaning from now until December, and a preview of 2002! Got your calendars? Here we go!

*Thursday, Sept 6th...TNBS at Common Ground

Regular Thursday night bible study is moving to Common Ground! We start at 7pm, and we'll have coffee and loads of caffeine... plus a little from the Word.

*Friday-Saturday, Sept 7th & 8th... CampOut at Oak Mountain
Taking a night in the great wide open! The cost is only $10, plus a measly parking fee, there are still spots available. Meet at Common Ground at 4:30, but they aren't leaving until around 5:30, so you have time to get there! Bring sleeping bags, tents and a can of mixed vegetables! For more info contact
Sybil@datacrest.com

*Sunday, Sept 9th... Drama Time at Common Ground
Do you have a hankerin' for the dramatic ministry? We are putting together Common Ground's first drama team, and the interest meeting/audition is Sunday at 6:30 at Common Ground. Bring something to read aloud (poem, monologue, story) and be ready to do a little improv! Auditions held by members of Impact, Valleydale's adult drama team. (Yeah, like, five people showed up. I was one of them)

Gooneis DVD Screening
That's right... If you think the "Goonies R Good Enough", come by The Deuce at 7pm for a special screening of the classic... with everyone from Data, Mouth, Stef, Mikey and of course, Chunk and Sloth. And... the outtakes are here, with THE OCTOPUS SCENE THAT WAS DELETED!!!! So, please, be our guest at The Deuce for this monumental event. (the infamous octopus scene turned out to be a colossal waste, by the way)

*Saturday, Sept 22nd... Coffeehouse with Al Denson
Common Ground holds its third annual fall Coffeehouse, and again Al Denson is returning to our little stage! Derrick Harris (and a mean redition of Smooth Criminal on guitar) is opening up, and we'll have an obligitory open mic time, with snacks, coffee and the works! Make sure you tell people about it, bring your friends, bring people who are looking for somewhere to go! It starts at 7, it ends just whenever!

*Sunday, Sept 23rd... Luncheon with Al
You dont have to get up for 9:40 Life Connection! Worship together at 11 at Valleydale, then head over to "The Jungle" (the first modular behind the church, with the awning) immediately after service for lunch and a mini-concert by Al himself! (I actually got to tell Al Denson that I celebrated his entire collection... then he gave me and Mikey free cds)

*Tuesday, Sept 25th... Caedmon's Call and Steven Curtis Chapman's new albums
"In the Company of Angels", the new cd from CC is released today, as well as "Declaration" by SCC.

*Tuesday, Sept 25th... Campbell's Birthday
Our beloved Steph Campbell turns 25 this day in history, so make sure you give her a greeting. You can reach her at her new job at
SLCampbe@southernco.com (whats funny is that she turns 30 in a few weeks..)

*Saturday, Sept 29th... Concerts abound
Caedmon's Call will be at the Oak Mountain Amp, tickets are around 17.00 advanced, its general admission. Point of Grace and FFH will be at the Boutwell Auditorium the same night, tickets are from 15-25, seats reserved. Both concert tickets are available through Ticketmaster.com. Also, dcTalk is appearing at the Boutwell on Friday, October 5th, with Tait (one of the solo acts from dcTalk). Tickets are available through TicketMaster for this one too.

*Sunday, Sept 30... Grabbajava

What does it mean? Well, we don't really know... but its a more coffeehouse'esque version of the old Tuesday Perk. Meet at 7pm at Common Ground, and we'll have some music, some caffeine, some fellowship and some drama (maybe :)... (call me a non-conformist, but I NEVER liked advertising anything called Grabbajava)

*Sometime in October... The Phantom Menace
Star Wars: The Phantom Menace is coming to DVD, and we are doing a special screening of it at The Deuce, with Dolby Digital Surround Sound. Date TBA.

*Saturday, October 6th... Breakfast Downtown
Our First Saturday Breakfast takes a trip downtown to a little diner called.... Bogues? Is that right, Earl and Tad? Anyway, keep listening for more details, I heard that the food there is awesome! (I don't think we made it...)

*Sunday, October 7th... The NFL with Wookiee
Wookiee is looking into a Chicago Bears-Atlanta Falcons game on this afternoon, tickets TBA. Its the Bears and Falcons, it can't be that much. Anyway, contact
CoachFuly@cs.com for more details.

*Thursday, October 11th... Survivor III
The new tradition returns... TNBS at 7pm, Survivor (but I dont even know her) at The Deuce afterwards!

*Friday, October 12th-14th... Fall Retreat/Conference
This fall's retreat we are heading to Dalton, Georgia (where the heck?) for a conference starring Mercy Me and speaker Voddie Boachum. If you've never heard Voddie, he's a great speaker... for those of you who went to Passion One Day, he's the big black guy who warned against false worship. The cost is $45, which includes room, conference fee, transportation and some meals. Keep watch for more details! (I remember the concert, back before "I Can Only Imagine", but I vaguely remember where we stayed... wait, now I remember Drew had his mack on, pizzas were really expensive to order, and the rooms were connected by a "wall" door)

*Friday, October 19th... Passion Conference
If you aren't familiar with the Passion Conferences, now is good time to start! I believe this one will be in Atlanta, so more info is to come!

*Saturday, October 20th.... DeuceNight, the SemiFormal
Here's the lowdown... the tentative plan is to dress up (suits, nice formal wear), take a great dinner somewhere not-to-expensive-yet-nice, and then take an hour or two of instructions in dance--waltzing, swinging, jitterbugging, fox trotting, whatever, and it should be a great night of Christian fellowship and fun. I am trying to keep the cost down to about $20 per couple or $12-15 per person. Anyway, the details will be coming soon!

*Sunday, October 28th... Its Masquerade Time at CG
Our annual Hallow... wait, October 31st celebration (we're Baptist, we can't say Hallow... uh, yeah). Either we have a little costume gathering such as last year, or we are trying to get a Murder Mystery Hallo... End of October Holiday Party together. Details to come.

*Saturday, November 10th... The Wookout Cookout in Millbrook
Auburn vs. Georgia is that day, and we plan to travel down to Millbrook to visit our hairy friend at his house, to grill out burgers and steaks and watch the game on his big 19" television!

*Saturday, November 17th... Iron Bowl Sybil
Its Auburn/Alabama time, and join The Deuce and Common Ground at Sybil Johnson's house for the game, with food, fellowship, food, football and food!

*December... Graduation time
Jill Berthon gets her diploma from Auburn, Jason Quinn gets his from Alabama... make sure you congratulate them!

*Thursday, December 6th... Final Feast at Sybil's
The first of December every year, Sybil has everyone over for one big phat meal for Christmas, just before everyone goes home for the holidays!

*Thursday, December 20th... Sybil's Christmas Time
For those who can't make the final feast, join us here at Sybil's for another, smaller Christmas Party

*Saturday, December 22nd... Its a Wonderful Deuce Christmas
This year at The Deuce, we'll take a more intimate turn for Christmas... rather than the big band party blowout, we'll have a more toned down approach. There'll be some music, Stephanie Knipp may do a little Christmas stuff, and the Famous Deuce Cafe will be open with all new drinks! (I think this event gave us the infamous Steph Nipp "Santa Baby", where every guy but her brother was practically drooling)

*Saturday, December 29th... Steph turns Twen-Tee-One
No plans yet, but Steph Knipp finally hits the 2-1 age. For those of you wanting to get in touch with her, her address is CNC Box 70218, Jefferson City, TN, 37760. I didn't like the idea of broadcasting her phone number for the world, so if you want it, email her at
Snipp2@aol.com

*Monday, December 31st... Sybil's New Years Rockin' Eve
Big New Years Eve Blowout at Sybils. More details to come.

In 2002:
*February 9th... Deuce Date Party 2
*May... Star Wars, Episode II: Attack of the Clones
*May... DeuceFestTre
*June 22nd... Matt and Ginger's Wedding
*June 29th... WalkAbout Dinner Theater

The DRL (deuce request live) Top Five of Everything
5... College Football. It returned. Aarr aarr arrgh!!! (I felt the same way this past weekend)
4... South Africans. A Saturday with one will enlighten you, I promise (Chantal Els and I hung out all day, including a late night trip to Montgomery to buy Pooh slippers from the Disney Store, before it closed down)
3... Jennifer Capriati. I loved her since we were both 13, so I thought it time to honor her.
2... Tad. He rules. Sarah, do you know him? (the joke: for whatever reason, Tad Roose, new to the group, and Sarah had been introduced like, four times)
1... Daniel Powell. 8-0 in the DFC this week. It won't last, but still, its worthy of mentioning.
Just missed the cut: UCLA, Jennifer Hudson, Popeye's Chicken, Rush Hour 2 and Susan Cooper

The Spotlight Haiku
Its that time of the show when we highlight someone special from the Deuce! Coming this fall, we've got haiku for Melissa H, Mike W, Pritchett, Ken Nipp and many more! But now, after all this time, we shine the spotlight on the Deuce's own silly angel, Sarah Hasha
Silly girl Sarah
Cute, funny, giggly she is
I KNOW!! She's awesome!

Hip Click of the Week
Okay, so in my Goonies search, I found a picture of the Goonies all growed up! Chunk lost a lot of weight, and can I just go on record and say that Andi (Kerri Green) is a hottie? Anyway, here's the shot:
www.aintitcoolnews.com/display.cgi?id=9676

New Contest! Name Dave!
In a week, I'll be working with Rob and Shannon on the new morning show on WODL 106.9. I'll be the guy that Casio Kid and Don Juan is to Rick and Bubba... the background guy with comments and such. Anyway, the contest is now to come up with a radio nickname for Dave. Big Brown Booty Daddy and Brown Sexy have already been suggested, and as much as I like being called Booty Daddy, that might not be the moniker I'm need for my radio career. So send your suggestions in to me here at
david.dollar@cox.com or tanguy2001@aol.com (it ended up being "superdave", but the big story was that, one day into the internship, 9/11 happened)

By now, most of the Seattle mission team is back in town... Michael, Merdi, Tommy and others. By Thursday, Eric, Nathan, Sybil and the rest will have returned. Say a prayer for them some time this week, just to help them readjust to everything and help them remember what God showed them this past week. Thanks.

The Spotlight Haiku
Now comes the part of the show where we highlight one of our own who helped to make the Deuce what it is! Though she has been around in a long, long while, we have to salute one of the original Deuce Divas, Leslie Cordell:

hair, our Les we love so much

Top Ten Christian Albums of All Time
Well, over the last 12 weeks, we have featured the top ten as voted on by you, the DW reader. So here they are, with number one as well.
10. Craig's Brother, "Homecoming"
9. Third Day, "Third Day"
8. Nichole Nordeman, "Wide Eyed"
7. Caedmon's Call, "Caedmon's Call"
6. Nichole Nordeman, "This Mystery"
5. dcTalk, "Jesus Freak"
4. OC Supertones, "The Supertones Strike Back"
3. Jars of Clay, "Jars of Clay"
2. dcTalk, "Free at Last"
Number One...
"Kansas" by Jennifer Knapp.
She was only a Christian three years and had been playing guitar about that long when she released "Kansas", her first album. Jennifer Knapp then drove deep in the hearts and spirits of so many people, young and old, girl and guy, with her folksy sound, her rock riffs and her spiritual and meaningful-to-everyday-sinner-you-and-I lyrics.
"Wanting, needing, guilty and bleeding... unrighteous, unholy, undo me, undo me..." sink deep in your mind as a prayer of sorts. "His grace is sufficient for me" is a line from the song of the same name that conjures up the thought that He truly is all we need!
"Hold Me Now" shares the story of the defense of the prostitute by Jesus, and it is really a song we can all relate too in saying "oh foot of Christ, you wait until her harlotries known" (will you still love me when you know what a crappy person I am?) and Jesus says simply "You say my bride isn't worth half the blood that I've spilled" (dont say you are worthless, because I wouldn't have died if you were).
Perhaps my favorite, yet most convicting line off the whole album, is that from "Martyrs and Thieves", a line that states "There are ghosts from my past who own more of my soul than I thought I had given away... they linger in closets and under my bed and in pictures less proudly displayed." I am actually listening that song now. When that line sings, I just cringe, yet am so proud I am set free from those things.
In writing practically all of her songs, she rises above the shallow "Jesus loves me" lyrics of similar artists, boy bands and girl groups. This is a fine pick for number one....

A couple of things... one... one of my former FH brothers is named Bart Boothe... his fiance and his mom have both contracted serious illnesses. I am sure many of you were touched by the testimony of the effectiveness of prayer the other night at Bible Study, and so on that same token, if you could just mention up "Bart's mom and fiance, and their sickness" sometime in your prayers in the next week... God knows what you are talking about!
Two... tomorrow at 6am, Sybil Johnson and her motley crew of godly people head in a van to Seattle, WA, to be followed Saturday by a whole team. They are going to be spending a week at an Indian Reservation in Seattle, and from what I understand, a very lost people. Please pray this week for their safety up and back, and that God will envelop them on their journey while they are there. Thanks!
Three... Thanks Stephanie Nipp. You've been a wonderful Deuce First Lady, and we appreciate you more than you know. And don't worry, we won't give your title away.

Top Ten Christian Albums of All Time,
as voted on by you, the DW readers...

Number 10 - Craig's Brother, "Homecoming"
Number 9 - Third Day, "Third Day"
Number 8 - Nichole Nordeman, "Wide Eyed"
Number 7 - Caedmon's Call, "Caedmon's Call"
Number 6 - Nichole Nordeman, "This Mystery
Number 5 - dcTalk, "Jesus Freak"
Number 4 - OC Supertones, "The Supertones Strike Back"
Number 3 - Jars of Clay, "Jars of Clay"
Number Two... dcTalk's "Free at Last" (personally, I think that Jesus Freak has held up better over time...)
Reviewed by Drew Morris--
In 1992, an already established rap trio by the name of DC Talk brought into the world a hip-hop album of, in the world of Christian music, more than epic proportions. Infectious grooves in songs like "Luv is a Verb" and the title track, "Free at Last" were coupled with tongue-twisting, mind-stimulating raps (packed, as always, with some hardcore lyrics by Toby) on almost every track, the most memorable (and impressive) in "That Kinda Girl," and the remake of the Doobie Brother's hit "Jesus is Just Alright" (which, for dc Talk's purposes, became "Jesus is Still Alright"). Aside from the Doobie Brother's cover (which, I mean...how cool is that!?!), DC Talk also included on this album their very own version of the classic, "Lean on Me."
It is apparent to even the least enlightened Christian music fan that this album has nothing short of EVERYTHING. My Personal testimony: Most of my friends and I learned pretty much every word on this album back in '92, and we still recite it and listen to it and enjoy it to this day. Why this album isn't #1 on this list, I'll never know--but I'll certainly tune in next week to see what is! Take it easy, guys, and be excellent to each other!

Thats right... its back! What is the DFC? Well, its our little college and pro football prognostication game. Each week, we pick the winners of 4 college and 4 pro games, and we keep a tally of the standings over 13 weeks. The top players go into the playoffs, and one person is awarded the Brook DeRamus Championship Plate, signifying them as the best there is, was and will be. Shawn Sharp won it all last year, and he's bragging pretty heavy so far. We dont play for money... the trash talk is payment enough, believe me. Sign up anytime between now and the end of August. It costs no money to play, but put your pride on the shelf!

Top Ten Christian CDs of All Time
as voted on by you, the DW readers
Here are some of Campbell's faves: "Maze of Grace" and "In a Different Light" by Avalon, "Lead Me On" by Amy Grant, "i2(Eye)" by Michael W. Smith, "Pure and Simple" by Geoff Moore and the Distance and "Greatest" by Steve Camp.
Number 10 - Craig's Brother, "Homecoming"
Number 9 - Third Day, "Third Day"
Number 8 - Nichole Nordeman, "Wide Eyed"
Number 7 - Caedmon's Call, "Caedmon's Call"
Number 6 - Nichole Nordeman, "This Mystery"
Number 5 - dcTalk, "Jesus Freak"
Number 4 - OC Supertones, "The Supertones Strike Back"
Number Three... Jars of Clay's "Jars of Clay"
In 1995, four guys released their self titled debut album called "Jars of Clay", taken from the 1 Corinthians passage. In the next year, they would see their album go double platinum, see one of their songs play on rock stations and MTV and tour with the likes of dcTalk. Jars of Clay's cd is one of the milestones of the CCM explosion of the 1990s, with fresh lyrics and inventive styles. Released from then-small independant label Essential, it opens with the catchy chants of "Liquid" and takes you through a worship experience. You get to worship with "Love Song for a Savior", pop with "Boy on a String" and move that head with "Flood", perhaps their most known song outside of the CCM culture.
Says Steve Mason, "We didn't know where God would take us, but we knew when it hit the charts on Billboard, that He had something big in store for our ministry." Never one to be shy about opinions, Mason answered the big 'selling' out question by saying, "People take shots at us because we would rather play in bars than churches, but you know, any time the Word and the world meet, there will be sparks... We just want to do as Jesus would do, and go out into the world spreading His message."
Any definitive collection of Christian music would have this album as a part of it.

Hip Click of the Week
Ever wonder who is singing on your favorite commercials? You can probably find out here!

Pud of the Week:
Your way of knowing there is always someone more goofy than you
So, the Jacksons are reuniting this fall... but it won't be five, it will be four. No, Michael isn't holding out--he'll be there. But who's not coming? Jermaine. Jermaine is apparently upset at the up-to-$2500 ticket prices being charged for this one time only concert. And of course, ticket sales will go down considerably because Jermaine Jackson isn't coming, right? But I'm sure they'll pick up again when LaToya signs on to appear.

The Spotlight Haiku
Our weekly shine to someone who we love and cherish! This week, our Haiku of spotlight and fame goes to Dr. Earl Salser!
Doctor Earl is our
group's own medicine man and
pretty witty, too.

If I Could Be Serious for a Minute...
A couple of things... this is the editorial part of the DW. Thanks to everyone for the support and love shown to be me last week in all my goof ups and flack. 'Nuff said about that.
The middle school is on a week long mission project in Chattanooga, and for some of them, this is their first mission trip of their lives. Keep them in your prayers that God may show them things they won't forget, and that the reality they see won't scare them, but will make them realize there is a whole unsaved world out there.
Also, keep the high school in your prayers as they get set to move to the new tent area... they have been coating it in prayer that it may continue to meet the needs of the high schoolers... so our prayers won't hurt the cause. Thanks.

This Week's Top Ten List
Top Ten Signs You've Written a Bad Top Ten
(as said last week, its slightly edited to remove names--even years later, after countless helpings of humble pie, but I thought it was funny still)
10... Instead of quoting scripture in the hit motion picture Black Dog, MeatLoad stops, breaks the fourth wall and says, "Dude, man... that was a bad top ten."
9... You get smacked by wives at church for including their husbands in your bad top ten.
8... Meredith gives you a stern look.
7... As a "good idea/bad idea" demonstration, someone reads James 3:5-12, and then reads your bad top ten list. (look it up... it'll make more sense)
6... God audibly says to you, "If you'd pay more attention to My top ten list, you wouldn't have this problem."
5... The teacher wraps a rock in your bad top ten list and stones you.
4... Come to Bible Study, get food. Write a bad top ten list, get rebuked.
3... Vic sits on you, muttering, "Dumb top ten list".
2... The planned Men's Fellowship includes a lesson on faith, patience and not writing a bad top ten list.
1... Sybil pays you off to never write a top ten list again.

"Supertones Strike Back" is the the Supertones signature accomplishment. Punk rock guitar riffs mixed with rap-inspired vocals and an infectious brass-driven melodies creates a hard hitting sound that uniquely characterizes the southern California vibe. Matt Morginsky delivers his message of hope and love with true passion and raw energy. "Supertones Strike Back" is a must-have for any true ska fan.

Hip Click of the Week:
Here is a site I found this morning that I thought was cool... it's
www.TheGoonies.com, and it gives a little update on the upcoming DVD (with the octopus scene added!) and the upcoming sequel... yes, a sequel, with all the original cast members.

Goob of the Week:
Your way of knowing there is always someone more goofy than you.
Forgetful thief leaves big clue
TUSCUMBIA, Ala. (somehow you knew it would be)—A suspect in a string of Mississippi bank heists left investigators a pretty big clue — his wallet, with his driver's license inside. The man had taken out his wallet and keys while in the process of obtaining a money order when he suddenly pulled a gun and threatened tellers, authorities said. In a hasty departure, he left his car keys and handgun as well as his wallet.

The DRL (deuce request live) Top Five of Everything
5... John Autry. Accomplishing what I can only dream of. Sigh. (I think this was a reference to the fact he made out with a hot chick that will go unmentioned)
4... Derrick Harris. Smooth Criminal & Ice Ice Baby on Guitar. How cool.
3... Sonic. Their cheese tots are simply de'lish. Just de'lish.
2... Jason Quinn. You ever realize what a cool guy he is? (Yes. Like the way he stole Susan Cooper from us)
1... Lynn Nipp and Leisha Hall... why Le Perk at CG looked like it did. Thank you.
Just missed the cut: Steph Nipp, Hefty Keith, Ice Daddy Coffee, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and Sean Hall.

The Spotlight Haiku
Our weekly shine to someone who we love and cherish! On tap for Haiku is Earl, Jimmy, Sarah, S'Crook and more... but this week, we give the shine to Jennifer Adams: (this was when Jason Quinn and Jenn Adams were together--Quinnifer)
Jennifer with a
big smile, curly hair... so,
don't screw up, Jason

This Week's Top Ten List
Top Ten Ways to Improve Attendance at Sunday School

(thaaat's right... its the infamous "bad top ten" that I wrote that caused much fervor at church, and suddenly put the DW on the watchful eye of the church Powers that Be. I thought of deleting this all together, but that would be changing history, now wouldn't it? So, I removed the names, removed a few key phrases and titles, and here you go)

10... Study scripture quoted by Meatloaf in the hit motion picture Black Dog.
9... At 10:20 every Sunday morning, we lead the Sunday School Conga Line
8... To attract the urban crowd, we start calling God "Abba G. Diddy"
7... As a "Good Idea/Bad Idea" demonstration, Song of Solomon followed immediately by episodes of Sex in the City.
6... Add a commandment--"Thou shalt no go a day without an Al Denson cd."
5... Teacher stones the least popular student as an object lesson. (come on... this is funny. it just is)
4... Come to Bible study, get food. Teach Bible study, get a date with a hot blond. (and this was a John Autry/Steph Nipp reference... again, I cracked up)
3... Announce the upcoming Rub A Tummy for Free Cheese Day.
2... Leader's planned Men's Fellowship at Hooters.
1... Pay em off.

Top Ten Christian CDs of All Time...
as voted on by you, the DW audience
We enter the second half of our countdown now... here is what Justin Glenn voted as his top five: 5-Caedmon's Call, "Caedmon's Call"... 4-dcTalk, "Free at Last"... 3-Third Day, "Third Day"... 2-Jennifer Knapp, "Kansas"... and 1-Caedmon's Call, "40 Acres".
Our Countdown-
Number 10 - Craig's Brother, "Homecoming"
Number 9 - Third Day, "Third Day"
Number 8 - Nichole Nordeman, "Wide Eyed"
Number 7 - Caedmon's Call, "Caedmon's Call"
Number 6 - Nichole Nordeman, "This Mystery"
Number Five... dcTalk, "Jesus Freak"
With the release of "Free at Last", dcTalk has broken from the then-normal Christian music style that had come with the likes of their "Nu Thang", early Newsboys, and early Audio Adrenaline. They were growing as a band, and their growth had come full circle with the 1995 release of the now triple platinum "Jesus Freak".
Jesus Freak seems to be the album they had always wanted to release, and it was different than any other album they, or most, had done. Right away it grabs you and sucks you in with its infusion of rock-n-roll and takes you for a Christian Joyride over racism (Colored People), forgiveness (Between You and Me), our depravity (What If I Stumble) and of course, standing up for Him in the legendary title track, Jesus Freak.
Perhaps the greatest achievement on the cd, sometimes overlooked by radio stations and compilation discs that want to play the best music out there is the track "In the Light." One of my personal favorites of any genre of music, "In the Light" is the prayer and cry of every single one of us, from the Billy Graham to the David Dollar, that we want to be in the Light of God, away from the "disease of self, run[ning] through my blood, a cancer fatal to my soul."
dcTalk's "Jesus Freak" is an album that they will never match, not because the music may not get better, but because they will never have a breakthrough like the one in 1995.

Schlameel of the Week...
Your way of knowing that there is always someone more goofy than you.
Police fire on each other; nobody hurt
SEATTLE — Police officers in two cars fired more than 20 rounds at each other after mistaking each other's vehicles for a stolen patrol car. Nobody was hurt. A bicycle patrol officer in downtown Seattle reported seeing a stolen patrol vehicle. A police car pursued it, but lost sight of the stolen vehicle. The other police car pulled up and, mistaking it for the stolen police car, rammed it. The officers inside thought they were being attacked and started firing. Two officers in one car and one in the other fired more than 20 rounds before they discovered the error.

5... Digital Lester, Justin and Steph... thanks for the music.

Top Ten Christian Albums of All Time,
as voted by you, the DW audience.

We've counted the bottom five of our top ten list... the top five are coming... to review, here's what we've gotten so far:
Number Ten - Craig's Brother, "Homecoming"
Number Nine - Third Day, "Third Day"
Number Eight - Nichole Nordeman, "Wide Eyed"
Number Seven - Caedmon's Call, "Caedmon's Call"
Number Six - Nichole Nordeman, This Mystery"
Our Top Five will start next week... this week, I, Dave Dollar, take Editor's Privilege, and give you my top ten of all time:
10... Long Line of Leavers - Caedmon's Call. Their most definitive work to date.
9... Jars of Clay - Jars of Clay. Incredible style, something they will never top.
8... Rich Mullins - A Litergy, A Legacy and a Ragamuffin Band. "Here in America" is one of the most unknown treasures in all of Christian music.
7... Free at Last - dcTalk... Breakthrough album for this trio, set the stage for the Christian music surge.
6... The Great Adventure - Steven Curtis Chapman... CCM giant, and his greatest triumph.
5... Candycoatedwaterdrops - Plumb... One of the best rock albums out there, every song is rich with spirit and passion
4... This Mystery - Nichole Nordeman... Trumps her already-great first cd, with the writing that is becoming distinctly known as hers.
3... Watermark - Watermark... Nathan's music and production and wife Christy's voice and lyrical prose make for a great album of worship and love for the Father.
2... Kansas - Jennifer Knapp... Can't argue against it being number one, with songs like "Martyrs and Thieves" and "Romans"... Knapp is a powerful vocalist and guitar player, and writes all her own.
1... Jesus Freak - dcTalk
The finest and most complete Christian album out there, with everything from rock to pop to ballad-style music to accompany it. This has to be in anyone's collection that calls themselves a Christian music fan. You may not like them, but you have to appreciate what they've done for Christian music as a whole. (okay... so five years later, which is plenty of time to reflect on what has truly stood time, if I were to revisit this list, I'd remove "Long Line" and put in "40 Acres", which to me is their definitive work... I'd take out "Great Adventure" and put in SCC's "Speechless"... I'd probably drop Rich Mullins and add in somewhere Watermark's "All Things New"... I'd bump up #9 a few places for being a CD that only gets better as the years progress... perhaps I'd flip-flop #1 and #2... and I'm sure Michael would find a way to put in Phil Joel)

The WalkAbout Dinner Theater Edition

9... Good looks aren't necessary to have a successful newsletter
8... Try and find cheese fries in The Hague, you chester.

4... We got Valdmanis! (I think this was the week when I had a crush on her or something)
3... Name another country where you have a North AND a South Dakota.
2... In any other country, Ty Coffey would have been assassinated by now.

Top Ten Christian Albums of All Time,
as voted on by you, the DW audience.
We now move up to the number six spot on our countdown... and here are Drew Morris' top five: 5) Supertones, "Strike Back"; 4) MxPx, "Life in General"; 3) dcTalk, "Jesus Freak"; 2) Craig's Brother, "Homecoming"; 1) dcTalk, "Free at Last".
Number Ten - Craig's Brother, "Homecoming"
Number Nine - Third Day, "Third Day"
Number Eight - Nichole Nordeman, "Wide Eyed"
Number Seven - Caedmon's Call, "Caedmon's Call"
Number Six - Nichole Nordeman, "This Mystery" (no kidding... a fabulous album that has gotten better as the years have gone by)
Nichole Nordeman's second album does a couple of things... it avoids the "sophomore jinx", or following up a great first album with a subpar second album, and it puts Nordeman into a select group of artists that follows up a great album with an incredibly great album... ie, dcTalk, WaterMark, Audio Adrenaline.
Nordeman is becoming a masterful writer of worship and storytelling, touching on a range of emotions and theology on "This Mystery". The title track confronts the question of the mystery that is God, while fare like Tremble speaks of fearing God, Fool for You speaks of a willingness to be open in faith, and a great Stevie Wonder (!) cover, As, tells of His great love for us. Perhaps her greatest achievment, however, falls on the final track, a live version of her song Why. It is this song that caps off the album, sealing her forever in my mind as a blessed writer of love, as she tells of a little girl who witnesses the persecution of Christ, and in her innocent mind, can only ask "Why?"
Hillary Kelley wrote a few weeks ago of Nordeman's insights into the Christian walk on her (Nichole's, not Hillary's) first cd, "Wide Eyed". That continues here. -- DW ed
