The Deuce Weekly, 3/27 - 4/01/01

Vol I, Iss VI
3/27 - 4/1

The DRL (deuce request live) Top Five of Everything… The Oscar Edition.
5… Bjork. Wearing the swan dress gave us something to laugh about during that gosh-awful crap she was singing. (to this day, one of the worst dresses I've ever seen)
4… Steve Martin. Kept the zingers coming, with his best shots at Russell Crowe.
3… Sybil Johnson. Fourteen right awards. I got ten.
2… Julia Roberts. Yeah, we knew she’d win. But it was so fun watching her smile onstage.
1… Michael Nipp. Slowly building an award show dynasty, winning his second Oscars in a row. (he won the following year too, before entering into a slump that lasts to this day)

Coming Up:
*Spring Break this week…. Wookiee and Shawn are still taking applications to head to the beach! Contact either one, and they will give you the lowdown for this end-of-the-week excursion. (they went by themselves. somehow, I think shawn is a daddy now)

*Thursday, March 29th… No bible study, but meet at Common Ground at 6:30, and we’ll take in Chuck E Cheese pizza. Bring five bucks for pizza, and some money for your tokens. Afterwards, there may possibly be a group going to see the late showing of “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”, so watch for details! (the group consisted of me, The Hall, Sybil Johnson and one other guy I can't remember)

*Tuesday, April 3rd… Wade Morris, the barefoot preacha-man, is doing a little service at Common Ground. You don’t want to miss this!

*Saturday, April 7th… Cracker Barrel Saturday. Meet at the Cracker Barrel on 119 around 10 am for a big fellowship breakfast.

*Friday, April 20th…Common Ground Afire! Meredith Quintana is hosting a big fire at her house, way out in the boonies, so listen up for more details! (this is the one where Josh Crosby kept jumping the fire)

*Saturday, April 21st, in the day. Our first Deuce-outing, as we just all go gather and play at the Oak Mountain state park!

*Saturday, April 21st, in the evening. Supertones, Switchfoot and Reliant K in concert at Metro Church o’God.

*Saturday, April 28th… The Dove Awards, live at The Deuce!

*Sunday, April 29th… Life Connection luncheon at the Refuge, 12 noon.

*Thursday, May 3rd… The Survivor Finale! After Bible study, come on over and watch my Elisabeth win the million dollars! (not only did my Elisabeth Filarski not win--Tina did--but she went off and got married)

*May 4-6… Common Ground beach retreat! See Sybil for details.

Quirky odd Ashley
Battle with Mike, always wins

The Deuce Weekly, 3/13 - 3/19/01

Vol I, Issue IV
3/13-3/19

If I Could Be Serious For A Minute:
It’s not the guns faults, its not the kids faults, you can blame Satan, but the blame falls on us. We, as Christians, aren’t doing our job we were sent here to do. If we did as we were commanded, to go tell the nations, the world still wouldn’t be perfect, but it would be closer than it is now.

DRL (deuce request live) Top Five of Everything
5. Stephanie Campbell… her chorus of Steve Camp was simply well done and well timed. And her chicken salad junk was really good too.
4. The Deuce… yes, shameless self promotion, but we had 35 people at the Midnight Breakfast. That’s worth a number four ranking.
3. Lethal Weapon 4… Jet Li rules. I don’t care what you say.
2. Duke University… Did you see the smackdown laid upon the poor Tar Heels of North Carolina? Pretty vicious.
1. Josh Crosby… Tore the kitchen up with me as we served 30 plates of breakfast in an hour. We salute you, Josh!

Vol 1, Iss 3
3/6-3/12

If I could be serious for a minute:
Over 25 students in the middle school alone have come to Christ in the last three weeks or so. If that isn’t enough to make you smile, then just know its absolutely nothing from us... its all God making it happen.

DRL (deuce request live) Top 5 of Everything:
5. The Great Space Coaster. Who remembers it? No gnus is good gnus.
4. Jimmy Bowling. Interesting stories, talks all night long.
3. Omar Vizquel. Signs a contract for 17.5 million less per year than A-Rod. Does cartwheels of joy. Baseball fans will know what I am talking about. (who is Omar Vizquel? no, seriously--I don't remember this guy)
2. Jason Lazzero. Signs a contract with Student Life for far less then 17.5 million per year than A-Rod. We all praise God for his faithfulness.

*On March 11th, its Selection Sunday for The Big Dance. We are going to try our first March Madness prognostication round-up, so email me to sign up. So far we have Wookiee, Justin, Drew and Matt. Who else dares? And Matt said for the women to not sign up and waste our time.
*March 17th-This is a Common Ground thing, but I encourage you to help if you can. We are babysitting for the young married class at Valleydale. One guy per two girls... can’t go wrong, huh?
*March 25th is Oscar Night at The Deuce. I have a copy of the Oscar ballot, and can email it to you upon request, or you can go to EWonline.com and get them. Everyone picks the winners from the 23 categories, the best record gets you two free movie passes, provided by The Deuce. (Steph & Shawn tied for this game last night)
*April 7th-Cracker Barrel Saturday. We had almost 20 this past weekend meet for breakfast, so if you aren’t there, you miss out!
