The DRL (deuce request live) Top Five of Everything
The Weekend in Atlanta Edition.
5... Meredith Q. Responding to my asking the pilot if we could do a fly by of the tower like in Top Gun, she said "Negative Ghost Rider, the pattern is full". That is funny. (Still one of the funniest things I've ever heard)
4... Josh and James, who dared to get onto a plane with no parachutes, after they had to jump off the battery.
3... Steak and Shake. Gosh, I love that place.
2... Chess Cake, or more specific, Steph Campbell's Chess Cake. Its some good stuff.
1... Emily Eldridge, who opened up her home to us even though bizarre roommates forbade us to touch their stereo equipment.
Just missing the cut: Lady Marmalade, Jason Q, Wax n Facts, Taco Mac and Erin. (for the record, I learned how to say that French phrase in the song from "Lady Marmalade" on this weekend... Steph Campbell taught me... and I don't know what Wax n Facts is...)
The Spotlight Haiku
Continuing in our series of Spotlight Haiku shining on Deuce History Month, this is the sixth. The seventh, and then final installment of this series include the David Dollar Haiku, and a cute little DeuceFest haiku by Vic Paschal. But this time... here is a Haiku just for The Deuce...
The Deuce. The best there
is, the best there was, the best
there ever will be.
This Week's Top Ten List
Top Ten Things David Mark Osborne Is Glad He's Not Doing Right Now
10... Caressing industrial pipe valves
9... Taking a casual stroll through Kosovo
8... Hearing that oh-so familiar music from the hit motion picture Black Dog.
7... Dusting off his commemorative "Bosom Buddies" plate collection
6... Slowly and methodically hacking off his foot with a butter knife.
5... Wiping counters at a proctology clinic
4... Washing his hands in a urinal
3... Telling Stefanie Jovanovich about washing his hands in a urinal
2... Working on Factor 7's Michael Bolton's tribute album.
1... He'd rather do just about anything than read this, I'm sure.
Top Ten Christian Albums of All Time,
as voted on by you, the DW audience.
We now move up to number seven on our list of all time Christian albums. Here are Amy Anderson's favorite cds: "Jesus Freak", dcTalk; "Much Afraid" and "Jars of Clay", Jars of Clay; "Life, Love and Other Mysteries" and "Steady On", Point of Grace.
Number Ten - Craig's Brother, "Homecoming"
Number Nine - Third Day, "Third Day"
Number Eight - Nichole Nordeman, "Wide Eyed"
Number Seven-Caedmon's Call, "Caedmon's Call"
I don't know about the rest of you, but when I first get a CD, I read the lyrics along with the song, until I have it memorized. As I looked through the words, one phrase stood out to me, and always does. Its from "Lead of Love" [the opening track], "...and how you've made good of this mess I've made is a profound mystery..." That gets me everytime. Even as I type this, my eyes blur with unshed tears, as my heart is filled with joy and overwhelmign gratitude. It's words, phrases, and thoughts like these, that make this CD what it is. Caedmon's Call has never been one to "sugar coat" anything. They tell you like it is, then show you His grace, mercy and love through songs of praise, adoration and encouragement. I've listened to this CD more times than I can count, but everytime, He's shown me something new. Funny how that works. You can talk to most any 20-something and they'll tell you how great Caedmon's Call, is.... but you don't have to take their word for it. Find out for yourself, if you don't already know. (Meredith Quintana)
{Merdi's review has been edited only for space purposes... for the full, unedited review (its very good), please email tanguy2001@aol.com. Thanks-ed} (It was about a page long... no, I don't have it anymore. But it was good)

Deuce History Moment #6
Its time for another moment in Deuce History...
So, like this didn't happen at the Deuce, it was in the Apartment, but one night, Shawn was goofed around with Lauren, and she was all freaky-deaky, like usual. She actually jumped on top of me while I was laying on the couch and bit my breastorial area. Bit. Very weird.
Anyway, so Shawn kicked her out for being obnoxious, and she came to the window of the bedroom that Mikey and Shawn shared. And Lauren is kind of a big girl. So, she starts banging on the window, yelling "Come out, Shawn! Let me in! I want to talk to you!". With the street lamp's orangish glow behind her, her shadow looked ten feet tall, so it looked as if there was this ten foot monster, arms wailing, banging on the window. Mikey curled up on the bed, I stood in the doorway frightened, Shawn cursed at her, finally went out and they both left. Crazy freaknik.
This has been another moment in Deuce History.

The Spotlight Haiku
Continuing in our series of Spotlight Haikus for The Deuce, in celebration of Deuce History Month, I give you our fifth Deuce Haiku. This time, we spotlight Malcolm, the table crapping, lettice eating lizard.
Malcolm, crapping on
the table, scaring the Wook.
Hey! Tastes like chicken!
If I Can Be Serious for a Minute.
Okay, in a follow up to last week's IICBSFAM section, I read today that Timothy McVeigh actually did meet with a priest right before his execution. His last rites were read, something that has to be asked for by the prisoner. Only God knows if McVeigh really meant to pray for forgiveness (it was totally contradictory of everything he'd said so far) or if it was for show, but I thought it was encouraging anyway. Thought I'd share.
This Week's Top Ten List
Top Ten Signs The Deuce Needs to Be Cleaned (topic chosen by Stefanie Jovi)
10... Sarah asked "What died in here?!" and we showed her.
9... There's suddenly an added scene in the hit motion picture Black Dog where Charles S. Dutton has a dust reaction and dies.

Top Ten Christian Albums of All Time
We are up to number eight on our list of Christian albums, voted on by you the people. But first, here's some of Ashley O'Neal's faves, in no particular order:"Much Afraid", Jars of Clay; "Free at Last", dcTalk; "Sonic Flood", Sonic Flood; "Without Condition", Ginny Owens; "Candycoatedwaterdrops", Plumb.
Number Ten - Craig's Brother, "Homecoming"
Number Nine - Third Day, "Third Day"
Number Eight-Nichole Nordeman, "Wide Eyed"
Her lyrics contain valuble insights into the Christian's walk. The recurring theme seems to be a desire to know Christ and be shaped to His image. This is seen in both the opening prayer "To Know You" and the closing surrender of "River God." The songs in between struggle with this issue as well, but also deal with deep insight into the Christian faith. The lyrics, written by Nordeman, seem real and genuine to the listener, like her heart is in her songs. (Hillary Kelly)

Announcements....
I'd be happy to do announcements for people, but only those concerning the group as a whole, and the Common Ground ministries. The DW editors have the right to accept or refuse an announcement for any reason. Those that don't make it into the Weekly can be posted onto the Weekend Update. However, I don’t like doing mass emails other than these two weekly newsletters, because I don’t want the 80+ people to be inundated with my emails. Thanks! DW Editors. (this was actually necessary... I was getting tons of email from people asking me to announce everything from car-washes to hang out nights... they thought that somehow people would read what I had to say... wink)

Deuce History Moment #5
Time for another Deuce History Moment
Okay, so like, remember when The Deuce Weekly was coming under fire from Valleydale Baptist Church and some of its leaders? And when Michael fired off an email to the pastor, from an anonymous email account? Only, when he set up his anonymous email account, he filled out the information part with his name and such? Yeah, that was really funny.
Join us again later for another Deuce History Moment.

June is Deuce History Month… This is our fourth in a series of Spotlight Haiku, shining the spotlight on the residents of The Deuce. This week we honor Michael Nipp, with a haiku written by the Deuce First Lady Steph Knipp.

If I Can Be Serious For a Minute…
This morning at 8:14ET, the government held, via lethal injection, its first execution at a federal level in a long, long time. Timothy McVeigh blew up a building in Oklahoma City in 1995, and in my opinion, he deserves to die. In my opinion, he deserves to die a much more painful death. Stick him in a chair and put some dynamite in his pocket. Of course, that’s just my opinion. Is that a wrong attitude? Yes, it is.
Who am I to judge him? Yes, he caused the death of 162 people. But God loves him. And God would forgive him just as much as me asking forgiveness for not tithing like I should. So this week, when you hear all the hoopla surrounding his execution, and you hear cries denouncing execution (I still support it) and cries wanting him to die much more horribly than a needle filled with poison, say a prayer. The Bible never said you can’t become a believer if you kill over a hundred people at one time. Pray for healing of the victims, pray for the victims themselves… and pray for Timothy McVeigh. You never know what God might have done in his heart at the last minute.

The Top Ten Christian Albums of All Time
At number ten on our list was Homecoming, by Craig’s Brother… over the next nine weeks, we’ll be doing our countdown of your all time favorite Christian albums!
Scott Latta’s favorites: 4) Steven Curtis Chapman’s Signs of Life; 3) dcTalk’s Jesus Freak 2) dcTalk’s Free at Last and 1) Steven Curtis Chapman’s Great Adventure. (Part of me wonders if this has changed by now)
Number Ten-Craig’s Brother-Homecoming
Number Nine-Third Day’s debut album
Says Drew Morris:
Third Day brought a sound to Christian rock that had never before been attempted (or at least, never was achieved). Their first album contained hits like "Consuming Fire" and "Thief" that are still just as popular as they were 5 years ago when it was released. But more importantly, that album (and it's popularity) showed the world that not all Christians sound like Twila Paris or Chris Rice.

Deuce History Moment #3
On this day, June 10th, 2000, four men began to move their stuff into 2715-C Briarberry Circle. Tom Johnson & Shawn Sharp went to the far bedrooms, on the Wook Wing. Michael Nipp and Yours Truly moved into the first two bedrooms, on the Laz Wing. It took five guys to move the washer and dryer upstairs, it took four to move the Sony Trinitron upstairs.
And this is where it began.
On this day, six years ago, the Deuce was born.
This has been a Deuce History Moment.

Deuce History Moment #2
Its time for another moment in Deuce History:
So, like, this one time it was Shawn's week for garbage... see, like all the guys each had chores each week--garbage, dishes, clean up and one week off, and they rotated each month. Well, Shawn didn't take out the garbage and it was piled up the wall. Michael got mad and piled it all in front of Shawn's door late one night, after Shawn had already gone to bed. When he opened the door the next morning, the garbage fell in on him. Oh man, that was really, really funny.
This has been another moment in Deuce History.

Deuce History Moment #1
In celebration of June being Deuce History Month, I bring you this moment in Deuce History:
Once, Tom obtained a lizard named Malcolm. He was a three foot iguana (Malcolm, not Tom). He crapped on the table and it looked like runny snot. (Again, Malcolm, not Tom). Malcolm crapped on the new couches once. Mikey didn't find out until much later. Thank goodness for Scotchgard.

4… Cheese Fries… Lone Star’s are okay, Wings are a little better… Outback still rules the cheese fries genre.
3… Meredith Q, extracting revenge by soaking ribs in hot sauce for someone else… quite funny. (I vaguely remember this... I do remember it was darn funny, whatever it was)

The Top Ten Christian Albums of All Time, as voted by DW Readers
Our poll is complete, and over the next ten weeks, we’ll be giving you the top ten favorites of the readers of the Deuce Weekly….
Hillary Kelly’s favorites? 5) Nichole Nordeman’s This Mystery; 4) Point of Grace’s The Whole Truth; 3) Watermark’s Debut cd; 2) Jennifer Knapp’s Kansas; and 1) Nichole Nordeman’s Wide Eyed.
Number Ten on the DW List:
Craig’s Brother, “Homecoming”.
Says DW Reader David Mark Osborne: "Homecoming is an incredible CD because it steps outside of the jarring, rebellious, and sometimes even shallow world of punk rock to create a masterpiece of insightful lyrics, tight, powerful vocal harmony, and energetic story telling. Inspiring melodies soar over rapid guitar licks and furious drum beats to create a barrage of sound that takes the listener deep into the emotions of the singer. It may be one of the greatest punk rock accomplishments ever." (I'll admit this much... #s 10 thru like, 8 didn't get a lot of votes. I think this cd got maybe 3? It was the top 7, especially the top 5 that racked up the votes... I still haven't a clue who Craig or his Brother is)

DW Special:
by DW correspondent Earl Salser
The Deuce has taken over Broadway… here are a few of the new shows appearing recently:
Deuc-I-cal The Musical
The original and best according to most critics. Seven years and running, this excellent production tells the story of how the original four Deucesters met and transformed a humble apartment into a phenom known as The Deuce. Lyric Theater. Available. (I love how on each one, Earl puts the theater, and how hard the tickets are to get... just hysterical)
The Pro-Deucers
Currently up for eleven Tony awards, including Ty Coffey for best supporting actor, the continuing adventures of the Deuce which introduces many of the current supporters of the Deuce way of life. The Orpheum. Difficult.
Les Deucerables
The tragic tale of what happens when four Tetris addicts battle a sleepy Wookiee for the couch. Includes Drew Morris singing "Tetr-cide", and the famous "Do You Hear the Wookiee Scream?". Broadway Theatre. Available. (This is my favorite one... the "Do You Hear the Wookiee Scream?" joke is one of the top 20 funniest things I've ever heard)
Cats II: The Fisher King
Continuing the success of the "Deuce" musicals storming Broadway over the past few years, this darker one deals with "Fisher", the cat of the Deuce household, and how she uses microtransmitters to control the brain of Malcolm. Special appearance this month only by DJ Frenzy. The Oberon Theatre. Available.
Miss Deuc-gone
The newest of the Deuce musicals, still in preproduction but opening in August, the true story of Steph Nipp, first lady of the Deuce, and her adventures in the strange land of Carson-Newman. Opens at the Disney/ MGM theatre in August. Difficult.
The Deuce' s Tommy
Not to be confused with The Who's Tommy, this tells the story of a satellite Deucester, Tommy McLeod, and how he develops a way to play computer games with a trombone slide. The Scrushy. Difficult.
Hope you get to catch some of these shows.
Thanks to Earl for that stirring piece of art culture… have a great week, catch you guys in the update!

The Deuce Weekly, 5/22 - 5/28/01 (Summer Preview!)
Vol II, Iss I
5/22-5/28
THE SUMMER PREVIEW ISSUE
In this issue, which is longer than most, so be warned, the editors of DW have decided to give you a preview of all the major events coming up between now and September. Also, we begin our series of Spotlight Haiku on the Deuce members, plus Dave’s Top Ten Summer Predictions. Without ado, I give you the first annual Deuce Weekly Summer Preview… (as I re-read this issue, I laughed numerous times... was this really five years ago??)
Coming Up:
TONIGHT, SOFTBALL AND PROJECT 86…
Tonight at Herdmont Park, Common Ground is playing a wacky game of softball for anyone with any talents whatsoever. Meet at 5:30 at The Deuce to carpool, or come out to the park, off of 119, around 6:15-6:30 to play. More info? Email Sybil@datacrest.com
Also, Project 86, Living Sacrifice and Stavesacre will be in concert at Five Points Music Hall tonight. For more details of times and such, contact Michael at nubjubjr@aol.com
THURSDAY NIGHT BIBLE STUDY…
Just a reminder, this Thursday at 6:30, our weekly entrance into the presence of God via Sybil’s house. For more details, see the above email.
PEARL HARBOR ON FRIDAY…
The Deuce will be going as a group to see Pearl Harbor this Friday, May 25th, probably to the late show. Don’t be foolish and show up at 9 to get a 9:30 ticket… it will be sold out, I promise. Bring your $7.50 to me during TNBS or this week sometime and I will go during lunch on Friday and get a ticket. Bring the amount needed or be ready to sacrifice 50 cents because I probably wont have change. First come, first serve, and absolutely no “get me a ticket and I will give you money on Friday night”. If you are planning on getting your ticket on Friday on your own, email me that day to find out the time that everyone will be going to…
MIDNIGHT BREAKFAST, FRIDAY, JUNE 8th...
For 2 bucks each from midnight to 1am, come to The Deuce and enjoy the tastes of The Crosby Show and Dave’s Pancakes and Waffles, this time with a much more extensive menu than last. We pulled in 35 people last time… lets shoot for 40! Doors open at 10:30, Coke, water, milk and OJ provided, coffee bar opened at 1am.
WALKABOUT: ON HOLY GROUND DINNER THEATER, JUNE 29th AND 30th
Besides Common Ground, The Deuce and Ashley Judd, my other obsession lies with the middle school drama team I direct. This is the 2nd annual dinner theater that we are putting on, and I hope to see all of you there. Tickets will be about $5 apiece, for dinner. If you only wish to see the show, that will be free! Times TBA.
DEUCEFESTDEUCE… SATURDAY JULY 7th…
Simply the biggest party you will find at Rollingwood on July 7th, I promise you! Our plan is a shrimp and crawfish boil, cooked by the hands of Vic and Ken Nipp. In the Deuce Café we’ll be serving up the coffee and ice cream. Cost is $5.00 per person, cheaper than an afternoon movie, for all you can eat, all you can handle.
In concert… The Mix of DJ Phrenzy… Ashley O’Neal… Justin Glenn… Stephanie Knipp… Dave the Drama Guy.. Drew Morris and Friends… and our newest game, The Deuce Weakest Link, one prize, one winner… now can you dig that? (So, I don't think we played Weakest Link... I can't remember what we did--perhaps Deucenaire again?)
LE PERC at COMMON GROUND, SATURDAY, JULY 14th…
Common Ground takes on a French Café appeal as we hold a great coffeehouse night. Come for music, poetry, song, dance and great food and coffee. Times TBA.
SO LONG STEPH, SATURDAY, AUGUST 4th
Stephanie Knipp is our Deuce First Lady, and we love her so. Sadly, she is leaving us in the fall to go away to school, but we are excited about the new direction God is taking her in. So, make plans to join us at The Deuce as we say goodbye (for now) to our beloved First Lady, the original Deuce Diva. You’ll hear more about this in weeks to come, and in the July 30th DW, the Steph Knipp Edition (this event is soon to be called StephStock, and the DW Stephanie Tribute Issue comes the first week of August)
THE DFC II BEGINS, SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 1st
The DFC? The Deuce Football Championships… before you laugh, just know that the DFC is open to anyone and is a rigorous 15 week season of football pickings and choosings, predictions, surprises and excitement. Anyone outside of the DFC can tell you how obnoxious it was… and anyone inside the DFC can tell you how awesome it was. Shawn Sharp was a wire-to-wire number 1 last season… and he thinks he’ll do it again. Oh, and DeRamus has already issued a challenge to all. (by the way, I'm taking some time to do major work on The DFC blogsite--I really want to put up everything, so watch for that)
Stuff to take note of Coming Soon:
*June 10th, Sunday… Life Connection at Valleydale begins our study on Song of Solomon… great for singles, all about the Lord of life, love and other mysteries. (PoG reference intended)
*June 15th, Friday, Ecclesia Church downtown is hosting Travail in concert.
*June 16th, Saturday… Watermark in concert, Kindred Bookstore
*June 20th-23rd… AtlantaFest in Atlanta, Georgia. Contact Michael for more info.
*July 20th-21st… Youth Evangelism Conference with Salvador, LaRue and Becca St James in concert.
*August 4th… Furnace Fest at Sloss Furnace
*August 7th… N’Sync in concert
In the Fall and Beyond
*September… Survivor III kicks off from Kenya, Africa
*October 20th… DeuceNight, our first semi-formal
*December… Jill takes her diploma from Auburn U!
*December 22nd… It’s a Wonderful Deuce Christmas
*February 2002… Deuce Date Party II
*Summer 2002… Matt and Ginger get hitched.
The DRL (deuce request live) Top Five of Everything
5… Run DMC. I didn’t go, but I heard enough good things about it to warrant a ranking.
4… Amy Wible’s graduation cake. It looked okay, but it was so freakin’ good to eat.
3… Shrek. Good movie. I personally think Eddie Murphy steals the show.
2… Steph Knipp’s simply groovy new haircut.
1… Silvertron Café. This little café in Clairmont, being led to it by Jimmy, was awesome. They had cheese logs… not cheese sticks, but cheese logs. (I took a date to this place once. It was nice. The owner was recently shot and killed. Very sad)
The Spotlight Haiku
On deck for their own Spotlight Haiku this summer are Osborne, Sarah Hasha, Jodi Nelson, Earl Salser and many more… However, since we are approaching June, the one year anniversary of The Deuce is upon us… so, its fitting that June is declared Deuce History Month! In the next few weeks, we are going to spotlight Tom, Michael, Malcolm, Fisher and The Deuce in a special series of haiku.
This week… The Haiku goes to Shawn, written for us by our friend Leslie Cordell.
Shawn, such a hottie
All women wish to be his,
Yet all get the shaft.
If I Could Be Serious For A Minute…
Hey, if you think about it this week, say a prayer for Ginger in Chile, Matt who’s going to Belize, Ross in California, Rachelle in Russia and Nathan in New Zealand. Pray for safe travel, pray for God’s hand… and though all of these trips aren’t necessarily mission trips, anytime we are around non-Christians, it’s a mission trip. (nothing's changed, really... at least for Matt & Ginger)
This Week’s Top Ten List
Dave’s Top Ten Summer Predictions
10… Dave forgets what he’s doing in June and puts out a top ten list that has no reference whatsoever to the hit motion picture “Black Dog”.
9… Frustrated with trying to get into Samford, Michael Nipp turns to Montevallo… where he doesn’t become a student, he becomes a night professor, teaching the new class “The Films of Will Patton.”
8… The full moon in August causes a strange happening, as in one single evening, Vic passes up free ribs, Sean Hall decides he’s too tired to pray and Drew Morris plays Jewel… for four hours.
7… Common Ground is shocked, though editors at DW weren’t surprised, when Jennifer Pritchett is arrested in August for the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Bombing. Apparently her quiet spirit front could only hold off the FBI for so long, as they soon discover her two alias names: Eric Rudolph and Joey Buttafuaco.
6… In June, David Mark Osborne is kicked out of Factor 7 for sharing his plans for the band to do a Yanni tribute album. Osborne joins with Tom Johnson and they form the duo “Ex Facto 7”.
5… Extracting revenge, Malcolm sneaks out in the middle of a hot June night and eats a sleeping Wookiee, leaving only a four pound hairball. Tom is upset only until he realizes there is a whole week he doesn’t have to feed Malcolm.
4.. Fed up with the way things are run in Samford’s SGA, Ty Coffey organizes a coup of the government in August, putting himself in power, with a new system of government… Ty-talitarianism. (Man, I thought this was one of the funniest things I'd ever written... no one else laughed)
3… After hearing her sing at DeuceFestDeuce, a talent scout tells Jennifer Knapp about Steph’s voice. So impressed is Jennifer that, in an effort to be more like Steph, she cuts her long hair and then drops the “K” from her name to become Jennifer Napp.
2… Playing Tetris one fateful day in July, Tommy achieves 16,428 lines in a sprint game. A mere ten seconds later, Tommy’s head blows up from overload. Michael is happy there is scotchguard on the couch to prevent stains.
1… In June, Sarah wins a million dollars in a McDonald’s contest, and we all spend a week in Tahiti.
Be a Part…
After resisting, I’ve been urged to put all call out for another haiku. We’ve done Tom, Michael, Shawn, Fisher and Malcolm… now, I guess it’s my turn. Send me your best Dave Dollar haiku and we’ll make sure it gets printed in June! Remember, a haiku is three lines, with five syllables in the first and third line, and seven in the middle line.
The First Ever DW Poll…
Response has been really good, I’m happy to say. One more week to left.. we are asking for ALL TIME FAVORITE CHRISTIAN CDs… YOUR TOP FIVE, or YOUR TOP TEN. The countdown begins in 2 weeks!
Removal…
To be removed from the mailing list, simply hit “reply” and type “remove” and along with your $54.00 removal fee, you can unsubscribe!

It’s the most anticipated movie of the summer… and we are getting a group together to go see it. The Deuce will be going as a large group on opening night, May 25th, to the late show to see Pearl Harbor at The Summit. Now, don’t be a silly goose and show up at 8 wanting to get ticket to the 9:30 show… it will be sold out. If you can bring your $7.25 during TNBS or a few days before hand (bring the amount needed, or sacrifice 75 cents, I probably wont have change) I will go during lunch on Friday and buy as many tickets as I can. First come, first serve. Please, no “get me a ticket and I’ll give you money on Friday night”. That’s why I’ve given you plenty of time to take note.
DeuceFestDeuce… 54 Days Away
It’s the biggest party you are going to find at Rollingwood Apartments on July 7th, I promise you!
Our tentative plan, depending on cost, is an all you can eat shrimp and crawfish boil. How will we do it? We aren’t sure yet, but we’ll figure that out later! Plus, in the Deuce Café, we’ll be serving up “personalized” ice cream sundaes and treats! Cost right now is a mere $5.00 at the door for all you eat, all you can handle. Tell your mama. Tell your friends. Tell anyone who can comprehend. Send it in a letter, baby tell it on the phone… if you don’t show up, I know you’ll be alone! (we’ll miss you much)
In concert: Ashley O’Neal… Justin Glenn… Stephanie Knipp… Dave the Drama Guy
and a our newest game, The Deuce Weakest Link… one prize, one winner. Can you dig it? (okay, so we didn't do the shrimp or crawfish, it was too expensive. And we didn't play Weakest Link. But darn it was a blast anyway)
The DRL (deuce request live) Top Five of Everything
5… Stefanie Jovanovich’s VW Beetle. For those of you who haven’t seen it, it’s a 1973 VW bug. It rules. (Funny--would you believe I saw her today, five years after she was mentioned here in the DW?)
4… Earl Saucer… Just a neat guy.
3… Audrey Hepburn… A real classy lady from way back when.
2… The graduating seniors. Congrats to you, welcome to the DW.
1… Superman II’s battle scene over Metropolis. It doesn’t get any finer than Superman vs. Non, Ursula and General Zod… unless, of course, it’s the Star Wars Death Star battle. (Funny--a month before Superman returns in Superman Returns. I'm prophetic)
The Spotlight Haiku
The spotlight Haiku is a feature that spotlights one person every week, someone who is loved by The Deuce. We still need more haiku for Shawn and Fisher! Come on folks, show the love!
This week’s haiku is dedicated to one of my best friends, in honor of her graduation from Alabama… we salute Amy Wible!

And really cute, too.
(yes, yes she was)
If I Can Be Serious for a Minute…
This Saturday, Ashley O’Neal is working at the Alabama Pro Life Coalition Yard Sale. It’s from 7am to 3pm this coming weekend. She could really use any old clothes donations, or anything in good shape you wouldn’t mind donating to be sold to help the Pro Life Coalition. Or, if you are absolutely bored this weekend, maybe you could help out! Call Ashley O’Neal at 980-1191 or 444-7784 for more details.

4… Sarah Hasha: “Ten o’clock is so early… I’m going to be up until at least one or two.”
3… Sybil Johnson: “Honestly, I’m really not that excited about hearing Rick.” (That being Rick Stanley, Elvis' cousin)
2… Eric Wade: “You know, I think I’ll sit over here, as far away from Ashley as possible.” (That being Eric Wade, Ashley's stalker)
1… Brooke Belcher: “Look Ellen! We’re early for the session!” (Story: Brooke & Ellen showed up late for eeeeverything that weekend, including a later water ocean romp with a very scared Josh Crosby)
Be A Part
June is Deuce History Month, and we are setting aside the month of June to honor Tom, Shawn, Michael, Fisher and Malcolm in a series of Haiku. Tom’s Haiku has been selected and will run the first week of June. We are still accepting all submissions for Michael, Shawn and one Haiku for Fisher and Malcolm. A Haiku is a Japanese poem with three lines… 5 syllables in the first and third line, 7 in the middle. Turn-ins have been low, so you guys need to pick it up! Put your creative gowns on and give me some haiku!
The First Ever DW Poll…
Response has been pretty good… so keep ‘em coming! We are asking for your favorite all time Christian albums. Not something you like because you bought it last week, I’m talking something you aren’t sure you can live without. Give me your top ten all time!

We are planning on going to see the most anticipated movie of the summer! The Deuce will be going as a large group either on Friday, May 25th or Saturday, May 26th, probably to the late show of either. Tickets will be sold out, so don’t show up at 8 for a 9:30 show expecting to get a ticket. Next week’s DW will give you full details of everything, including how to get your ticket! (I don't know that I've ever been more disappointed in a movie than I was in this one... I mean... this movie really, really blew)
The DRL (deuce request live) Top Five of Everything… Having to Do With Ginger Thomas
5… Nice smile
4… Very Godly chick
3… That ring is really shiny.
2… Cool pool table in her basement.
1… Have you seen her dad’s sports car? It rules
The Spotlight Haiku
The haiku written by DW Correspondent Stephanie Nipp
This week was initially going to Tom Johnson, but that has been postponed to the first week of June, which is Deuce History Month. However, in honor of Matt and Ginger, we decided to throw the Haiku to them. We salute you!
Matt and Ginger, hitched
Small kids, black hair and blue eyes
Latta swing her way
(I still don't get this joke...)
If I Can Be Serious for a Minute…
All joking aside, congratulations. The ring is spectacular, the bride-to-be is beautiful, the groom-in-waiting is awesome, and The Deuce and its extended family wish you a great year of engagement!
This Week’s Top Ten List…
Top Ten Things Having Absolutely, Positively Nothing to Do With Matt and Ginger, Their Relationship or Their Wedding in Any Shape, Form or Fashion, As Far As the Editors at the Deuce Weekly are Aware Of…
10) Boutros-Boutros Ghali
9) The San Diego Chargers
8) Salmonella poisoning
7) Meatloaf’s bolo tie in the hit motion picture “Black Dog”.
6) A left sock filled with Amy Valdmanis’ foot sweat
5) If you travel down 31 from The Deuce towards the Galleria, on your left, there is a Books a Million and Schlotzsky’s and such, and if you turn into that shopping center there, you’ll see a Chick-fila, and if you go into the drive-thru, there is a sign with a chicken on it that says “Employees only” on the door in the back where I’m guessing the employee’s go through… well, number five is that sign.
4) This ½ pint of chocolate milk I’m drinking right now
3) An old 45 pressing of “Head to Toe” by Lisa Lisa and the Cult Jam
2) A box of C-3P-Ohs
1) Pickles and Ice Cream (nothing to do with it at least until a few months after they get married) (oh, but now? Ha!)
